The idea in plain words

Some events matter for the chart: an interest-rate decision, a jobs report, an earnings release. A vertical line lets you see what the price did before and after.

How it is calculated

Click once at the time; the line runs from top to bottom and shows the date.

A single time

How to use it

  • Mark scheduled news to avoid trading right before it.
  • Mark the start of a move to measure its duration.

Drawing conclusions

  • Compare the behaviour before and after the line.

Example

A vertical line at 12:30 UTC on a US jobs-report day shows EURUSD jumping 60 pips in the next five minutes.

Prices in examples are illustrative.

Watch out for

  • Our chart times are UTC.
