Measuring and trade planning
Price and time range (measure)
Measures the distance between two points: price change, percentage, number of candles and time.
The idea in plain words
How big was that move? How long did it take? Measuring past moves gives realistic expectations for the next one.
How it is calculated
Click a start and an end point.
Change = end price − start price
Percent = change ÷ start price × 100
Bars = number of candles between the pointsHow to use it
- Compare the size of the current move with previous ones.
- Check whether a target is realistic within your time frame.
Drawing conclusions
- Moves of similar size often repeat (see AB=CD).
Example
The last three rallies in USDJPY each lasted about 12 days and gained 3–4 yen; the current one is at day 10 and 3.2 yen.
Prices in examples are illustrative.
Watch out for
- Past moves do not guarantee future ones.
